Below is the text of an email I sent to a dear friend who is caught up in the MAGA cult. That friend refuses to read my emails. But, as I wrote below, I'll continue to try.
Here we go again. I know you will not read this, but I must try anyway...
Like them or not, these are indisputable facts:
1. The January 6, 2021, insurrection DID happen. At the time, many MAGA folks tried to blame the riot on ANTIFA and BLM--because, in the days immediately following, with all the obvious live recordings of the events, it was impossible to pretend it was, as Trump now characterizes it, "a day of love." People died! That is not a "day of love."
2. Many Trump administration members with inside information said Trump wanted to overthrow the election by any means possible, including violence.
3. Directly following the riot, nearly everyone condemned it--including Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy (both of whom later changed their tune in order to get back into Trump's good graces). One does not condemn a pleasant "day of love."
4. The violent mob did erect a gallows, did call out for the death of VP Pence, and did try to find him to literally kill him.
5. Many juries did convict many of the Jan. 6 rioters, and those rioters were sentenced to prison terms. (That's how our legal system has worked for centuries.)
6. Newly inaugurated President Donald J Trump has now pardoned more than 1,500 of those Jan. 6 rioters. (So, obviously, they were not ANTIFA or BLM.)
7. Many of those rioters have now stated that they are stockpiling weapons for the upcoming "retribution" against those who prosecuted them and who testified against them and their savior, Trump.
8. Trump appointed one of the top organizers of the Jan. 6 riot as the acting D.A. for the District of Columbia.
9. Trump has directed his Justice Department to delete the records of the Jan. 6 rioters and of the riot itself. That order is now being carried out. (So much for future generations learning the truth and correcting the errors of their predecessors.)
If you doubt any of the above statements, look them up and see for yourself.
We have entered dark days.
